Resilient rail infrastructure
for a changing climate

MOÏZ's wireless, batteryless, self- powering IoT sensors monitor rails,  catenaries, and trackside equipment for data-driven railway asset performance management.

Simple to install

Self-powered sensors are mounted magnetically in just a few minutes: no wiring and no interruptions to service required.

Zero maintenance

Energy harvesting technology eliminates the massive hidden costs of battery replacement.

Real-time notifications

Replace annual inspections and reliance on weather alerts with true data-driven asset management across your entire infrastructure.

Wireless sensors, the key to protecting your railway assets from increasingly-frequent extreme weather events due to climate change

Extreme heat events are now more frequent, longer, more intense, and more widespread than ever before. Extreme heat in central and southern Europe increased roughly tenfold between 1961 and 1990 and between 2010 and 2024. But heat is not the only climate-related risk: Extreme and unpredictable cold weather is also on the rise. Rail infrastructure is particularly vulnerable to these weather events, making the ability to rapidly identify weather-related risks crucial to keeping trains running safely and reliably.

Both extreme heat and extreme cold stress rails, overhead catenary lines, and, more broadly, metal trackside assets like substations and signaling equipment. As temperatures rise, rails can buckle due to heat, even in northern Europe. When the mercury drops, frost and ice on overhead catenary lines can cause catenaries to spark, interrupting the power supply. Pantographs can also be damaged or detached. In a changing climate, these thermal stressors are no longer seasonal nuisances; they are now structural maintenance challenges. Preventive maintenance, like proactively managing damage to rails and taking anti-icing measures, requires real-time insights and alerts.

In today’s changing climate, doing nothing is no longer an option, nor is relying on annual manual field inspections or weather alerts. Railway operators across the continent are already looking for reliable, scalable, easy-to-implement monitoring solutions to support data-driven decisions without making field technicians’ jobs more complicated. MOÏZ provides wireless, batteryless IoT sensors for railway asset monitoring, giving you the data you need to quickly identify all weather-related risks before they disrupt service or create safety hazards.

Rail monitoring

As global temperatures rise, heat has become a growing concern for rail infrastructure. Overheated rails can buckle, resulting in speed restrictions at best and, in the worst-case scenario, derailments.

For railway assets spread out over a wide geographical area, wired sensors are simply not an option. With MOÏZ, you get low-OpEx continuous monitoring you can install quickly, easily, and affordably, anywhere and without disrupting service.

Catenary monitoring

Unpredictable weather events can include frost, which is detrimental to the overhead catenary systems that deliver power to rolling stock.

MOÏZ’s low-OpEx solution monitors the risk of frost formation on high-voltage overhead catenary lines, addressing railway infrastructure operators' unique challenges with no disruptions to service.

Trackside asset monitoring

Unpredictable weather events like heat and frost can affect trackside assets, generating field service calls and disrupting traffic.

Trackside assets are dispersed along lines, often hard to access, and rarely close to a convenient power source, making conventional wired or battery powered monitoring slow to deploy and costly to maintain.

A turnkey solution based on robust, versatile, high-performance IoT
sensors for rails, catenaries,
and trackside equipment

MOÏZ's turnkey railway infrastructure monitoring solution is based on our patented Harvestree sensor platform:

A proprietary thermal energy harvesting technology converts the difference in temperature between equipment heated by the sun and the ambient air to produce energy with thermal gradients as low as 6° C.

Our solution is designed to integrate seamlessly into your operational environment:

Data is transmitted wirelessly over LoRa with a range of up to 8 kilometers, ideal for monitoring railway assets over a wide geographical area.

Data streams can feed your existing supervision systems or MOÏZ's dashboards.

Energy harvesting unit and sensors packaged in a wireless, batteryless device, eliminating the high hidden costs of battery replacement campaigns.

IP68 and IK7 rated with a heavy-duty construction that protects the electronics from extreme heat, our devices are designed to withstand the harshest railway environments.

Can be deployed in just minutes per sensor with no disruption to service.

MOÏZ eliminates the costs and risks of on-site manual inspections, opening the door to truly self-powering, scalable railway asset monitoring.
