Unpredictable weather events can include frost, which is detrimental to the overhead catenary systems that deliver power to rolling stock. When overhead lines freeze, vibration increases, overheating or electrical arcing can occur, and pantographs can be detached, bringing trains to a halt.
With MOÏZ's turnkey solution, rail infrastructure operators can monitor catenary systems remotely across the entire network in real time and make informed decisions at the right time.
High-voltage overhead catenary lines, located six meters above passing trains, present unique monitoring challenges. MOÏZ's patented waste-heat recovery technology eliminates wiring and batteries for low-OpEx continuous monitoring that is quick, easy, and affordable to install on catenary poles without disrupting service.

Each sensor
unit is magnetically mounted on the catenary support pole in just five minutes using a telescopic insulated pole.

Each unit can
be equipped with up to four temperature probes to monitor weather and frost.

Data rate
between 15 and 30 minutes for normal operation; less if temperature reaches
alarm threshold.

Monitoring
requires no on-site interventions and no disruption to service.
